Overview

docker-image-size-limit

wemake.services Build status codecov Python Version wemake-python-styleguide

Limit your docker image size with a simple CLI command. Perfect to be used inside your CI process.

Read the announcing post.

Installation

pip install docker-image-size-limit

Or use our Github Action or pre-built docker image.

Usage

We support just a single command:

$ disl your-image-name:label 300MiB
your-image-name:label exceeds 300MiB limit by 114.4 MiB

Options

You can specify your image as:

  • Image name: python
  • Image name with tag: python:3.6.6-alpine

You can specify your size as:

  • Raw number of bytes: 1024
  • Human-readable megabytes: 30 MB or 30 MiB
  • Human-readable gigabytes: 1 GB or 1 GiB
  • Any other size supported by humanfriendly

Programmatic usage

You can also import and use this library as python code:

from docker import from_env
from docker_image_size_limit import check_image_size

oversize = check_image_size(from_env(), 'image-name:latest', '1 GiB')
assert oversize < 0, 'Too big image!' # negative oversize - is a good thing!

We also ship PEP-561 compatible type annotations with this library.

Github Action

You can also use this check as a Gihub Action:

- uses: wemake-services/[email protected]
  with:
    image: "$YOUR_IMAGE_NAME"
    size: "$YOUR_SIZE_LIMIT"

Here's an example.

Docker Image

We have a pre-built image available.

First, pull our pre-built docker image:

docker pull wemakeservices/docker-image-size-limit

Then you can use it like so:

docker run -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock --rm \
  -e INPUT_IMAGE="$YOUR_IMAGE_NAME" \
  -e INPUT_SIZE="$YOUR_SIZE_LIMIT" \
  wemakeservices/docker-image-size-limit

Should I use it?

You can use this script instead:

LIMIT=1024 # adjust at your will
IMAGE='your-image-name:latest'

SIZE="$(docker image inspect "$IMAGE" --format='{{.Size}}')"
test "$SIZE" -gt "$LIMIT" && echo 'Limit exceeded'; exit 1 || echo 'Ok!'

But I prefer to reuse tools over custom bash scripts here and there.

  • Upgrade to GitHub-native Dependabot

    Upgrade to GitHub-native Dependabot

    Dependabot Preview will be shut down on August 3rd, 2021. In order to keep getting Dependabot updates, please merge this PR and migrate to GitHub-native Dependabot before then.

    Dependabot has been fully integrated into GitHub, so you no longer have to install and manage a separate app. This pull request migrates your configuration from Dependabot.com to a config file, using the new syntax. When merged, we'll swap out dependabot-preview (me) for a new dependabot app, and you'll be all set!

    With this change, you'll now use the Dependabot page in GitHub, rather than the Dependabot dashboard, to monitor your version updates, and you'll configure Dependabot through the new config file rather than a UI.

    You have configured automerging on this repository. There is no automerging support in GitHub-native Dependabot, so these settings will not be added to the new config file. Several 3rd-party GitHub Actions and bots can replicate the automerge feature.

    If you've got any questions or feedback for us, please let us know by creating an issue in the dependabot/dependabot-core repository.

    Learn more about migrating to GitHub-native Dependabot

    Please note that regular @dependabot commands do not work on this pull request.

    Changelog

    Sourced from wemake-python-styleguide's changelog.

    0.15.0 aka python3.9

    Features

    • Adds python3.9 support
    • Forbids to use new-style decorators on python3.9
    • Changes how we treat own/foreign attributes, since now we only check assigned attribute names for self/cls/mcs, but not any other ones. So, now writting point.x = 1 will not trigger any violations. Previously, it would raise "too short name".
    • Forbids using non-trivial expressions as an argument to except
    • Forbids using too many variables in a tuple unpacking
    • Forbids using float("NaN").
    • Forbids assigning to a slice
    • Allow __call__ method to be asynchronous
    • Allows common strings not to be counted against string constant overuse limit
    • Forbids to unpack iterable objects to lists #1259
    • Forbids to use single return None
    • Add __await__ to the list of priority magic methods
    • Forbids to use float zeros (0.0)
    • Forbids raise Exception and raise BaseException
    • Forbids to use % with zero as the divisor
    • WPS531: Forbids testing conditions to just return booleans when it is possible to simply return the condition itself
    • Forbids to use unsafe infinite loops
    • Forbids to use raw strings r'' when not necessary
    • Forbids to use too complex f-strings
    • Forbids to use too many raise statements inside a single function
    • Forbids to compare with float and complex values
    • Forbids single element destruct
    • Forbids to ignore some violations (configurable) on a line level
    • Forbids single element unpacking
    • Forbids to unpack lists with side-effects

    Allow use of podman instead of docker

    This python package is awesome but currently it cannot be used with podman but it should be quite easy to make it recognize podman, or at least to have an option to make use of podman instead of docker as their APIs are compatible.
